Hugo Gaston sensationally reached the quarter-finals in Paris-Bercy

The name Hugo Gaston first became known to a broad masses a little over a year ago. Back when the young - unconventional - Frenchman surprisingly played his way into the second round of the French Open. And there he knew how to challenge the newly crowned US Open winner Dominic Thiem. Gaston was defeated by the Austrian in five sentences. However, what was primarily remembered was the flood of stops with which the 21-year-old always came to success.

Now it was quiet about the young talent for the French tennis sport until Gaston returned to Paris - but this time for the ATP Masters 1000 event in Paris-Bercy. There Gaston quickly became an absolute favorite with the public. Much to the chagrin of Carlos Alcaraz, who failed on Friday night not least because of a sometimes hard and borderline acting home audience - and because of his own nerves.

But first things first: Hugo Gaston won the first round in the round of 16 duel of the youngsters, but in the second set everything looked as if the favorite from Spain would equalize. Alcaraz was already in the lead 5-0 - but the 18-year-old didn't make it across the finish line. Because Gaston started the monster comeback, played no less than seven games in a row and sensationally won the quarter-final ticket with 6: 4 and 7: 5. There Gaston now has to deal with the number two of the tournament, Daniil Medvedev.
