Great weather in Stuttgart also on Friday - and this time even continuously. Which was also necessary, because a total of four and a half matches were scheduled on the center court at TC Weißenhof. Denis Shapovalov, the number one of the tournament, then won the continuation of his game against Feliciano Lopez, which was canceled on Thursday. But then lost to another veteran, Marin Cilic.
In tomorrow's semifinals, Cilic meets Jurij Rodionov, who surprisingly prevailed against Alex de Minaur. And that despite a moment of shock in the third set when the young Austrian fell on the slippery lawn. In the end, Rodionov kept his nerve in the tie-break, using his first match point. After he had already fought off one of his Australian opponents at the score of 4: 5.
The second match of the semifinals will be played by Sam Querrey and Félix Auger-Aliassime. The latter was in the final in Stuttgart in 2019, losing to Matteo Berrettini. Auger-Aliassime won in the quarterfinals against Ugo Humbert. Querrey had to fight hard against the young Swiss Dominic Stephan Stricker. Querrey had to fend off a match point, but finally prevailed 6: 7 (4), 7: 6 (4) and 6: 3.
