Cori Gauff had to stretch properly against Emma Raducanu

Towards the end of the first match of the Night Session at Rod Laver Arena, it looked like Emma Raducanu could still turn the tide against Cori Gauff. The Brit caught up a break deficit and dominated the rallies. Gauff only saved himself with the greatest effort in a tie-break. And there, too, Raducanu set the tone. But then it failed due to too many mistakes that are generally classified as “avoidable”.

Gauff won 6:3 and 7:6 (4) and now plays against either Qinweng Zheng or Bernarda Pera in round three.
On the other hand, Bianca Andreescu, the US Open winner from 2019, was eliminated. Andreescu started well against Cristina Bucsa, but in the end had to admit defeat 6: 2, 6: 7 (7) and 4: 6. The salary for the Spanish qualifier? A meeting with Iga Swiatek, who had no problems against Camila Osorio.

Also missing is Petra Kvitova, who made too many mistakes against Ukraine's Anhelina Kalinina. Kalinina won 6:4 and 7:5 and immediately has to deal with a Czech major triumphant again. Namely with Barbora Krejcikova, who didn't let anything burn in the 6: 4 and 6: 1 against Clara Burel.
