Unbelievable but true: Almost exactly twelve months after the fans in Melbourne Park were able to celebrate the title wins of Thanasi Kokkinakis and Nick Kyrgios, the local heroes have now triumphed again. Rinky Hijikata and Jason Kubler, who only got into the 64 grid with a wild card, won the final against Hugo Nys from Monaco and Poland's Jan Zielinski 6: 4 and 7: 6 (4).
As in 2022, the favorite couples played no role in the first major of the year. The last seeded pair in the competition were Marcel Granollers and Horacio Zeballos at number eight. However, the two were eliminated in the semifinals against Kubler and Hijikata without a chance.
