The American beat Barbora Krejcikova 7-5, 6-2 and is now in the last eight players. There she is waiting for the winner of the game between Victoria Azarenka and Lin Zhu.

Pegula has not lost a set in Melbourne so far - and is now the top favorite in terms of world rankings: She is currently number 3 in the world, both players before her, Iga Swiatek (No. 1) and Ons Jabeur (No. 2), have already been eliminated .

Pegula, 28, had made the leap to the top of the world in recent months, reaching the quarterfinals of three major tournaments last year. So far she hasn't gone any further - not yet. That could change in Melbourne.
