"It's always difficult because my last official game was in November. I got my best tennis and I'm very happy with my performance," said Berrettini. "As always, I think round after round. I am happy that I am healthy and play well. "
Andrew Harris with no chance
Harris was given the opportunity to make his Grand Slam podium debut after gaining nearly 200 places in the ATP rankings last year. The number 162 in the world has never met a top ten player and the jump turned out to be too high for the understandably nervous 25-year-old Australian.
Berrettini dominated the baseline duels at the Melbourne Arena, converted five out of nine breakballs and hit 38 winners. With a strong forehand, the Italian finally won the match after an hour 55 minutes.
