After the US Open, Reilly Opelka is already missing the second Grand Slam tournament in a row: As it became known on Wednesday, the 25-year-old will not be able to take part in this year's Australian Open. An official reason for the cancellation of the world number 38. is currently unknown.

However, it can be assumed that Opelka is still suffering from the consequences of his hip surgery carried out in August. The service giant made his last appearance so far at the ATP 500 tournament in Washington, where he lost in two sets to Nick Kyrgios in the round of 16.

When and where Opelka will return to the tour is currently still in the stars. At the Australian Open, the former world number 17 had. reached the third round last year. There he suffered a four-set defeat against Denis Shapovalov.

The beneficiary of the cancellation is Zhizhen Zhang, who is thus directly in the main draw of the Australian Open. For the Chinese, it will be the third participation in the main draw of a Grand Slam tournament.
