The 2011 US Open winner probably would not have thought that Samantha Stosur would have to compete again in the individual at the Australian Open. Stosur won only one match in ten defeats last season: in Melbourne in round one against compatriot Destanee Aiava. That is only enough to position 381 in the WTA world rankings. And thus by far not even to a starting place in the qualification table.

In the doubles, however, Stosur has recently shown again, together with Zhang Shuai, winning both the 1000 event in Cincinnati and the US Open. Perhaps one of the reasons why Craig Tiley, Head of Tennis Australia, would like to present Stosur to the Australian audience one more time.

Daria Saville (née Gavrilova), Maddison Inglis and Storm Sanders are also allowed to plan with a 128-slot slot. From an international point of view, it became known a few days ago that the French Tennis Federation will award the wildcards to which it is entitled to Lucas Pouille and Fiona Ferro.
