Quite a few spectators stayed in the Wiener Stadthalle after the two individual semi-finals to watch the two German Kevin Krawietz and Andreas Mies at work. The German doubles were in top form recently, sensationally defending the French Open title from the previous year a few weeks ago.
Intense champions tiebreak
The two Germans also got off to a strong start in the duel with the number three duo Lukasz Kubot and Marcelo Melo. After an early break, Krawietz / Mies won round one 6: 4. In the second round it stayed on serve for a long time before the Polish-Brazilian doubles managed to equalize the set with a break to 6: 4.
In the championship break at the beginning, Krawietz / Mies had a bit of the upper hand, but restored a two-point lead and finally had to accept the 8:10. The Brazilian Marcelo Melo ended the match with a sensational forehand return winner. The final is now against the British Jamie Murray and Neal Skupski.
