The Erste Bank Open in Vienna is already casting its shadow: Preparations are in full swing in the town hall, and the second match court is being set up on the Heumarkt these days. For the first time, tournament director Herwig Straka and Co. are offering "Tennis 2 Go" to spectators. The concept? For ten euros you can buy a ticket for two hours and watch all of the stars' training units as well as some matches in the middle of the city center.
In view of the already traditionally strong field of participants, it can be assumed that numerous top players will also serve on the second largest tournament site. After all, the cut-off this year was world number 37. If the event starting on October 25th is not canceled, Carlos Alcaraz, Kei Nishikori and Kevin Anderson, for example, would have to qualify.
Nikoloz Basilashvili, who is still fighting for his first ATP Masters 1000 title on Sunday (local time) in Indian Wells, was able to escape this. Final opponent Cameron Norrie will also compete in Vienna. In total, seven of the eight quarter-finalists from Indian Wells will play in the Austrian capital, only Taylor Fritz will not serve in Vienna.
The Austrian tennis fans can look forward to Stefanos Tsitsipas, Alexander Zverev, Hubert Hurkacz, Diego Schwartzman and Grigor Dimitrov. Matteo Berrettini and Casper Ruud will also do the honors in Vienna.
