Frances Tiafoe is always good for a surprise. With his spectacular style of play as well as his extroverted nature. For his first appearance at the Australian Open 2023, the young American (and his outfitter) had something very special in mind. The 24-year-old wore a daring (colorful) outfit by "Nike" and caused heated discussions on Twitter during the game.
The opinions on his dress? Very different. Comparing Tiafoe to a character from the Netflix hit Emily in Paris, one user explained: "Frances Tiafoe seems to be channeling his inner Julien from 'Emily in Paris.' Dude looks like a really bad cubist painting out there." Another user bleated with less humor, writing, "That might be a beach outfit, not a tennis outfit."
Even with his American tennis colleagues, the colorful action did not go uncommented. Young hopeful Coco Gauff (18) was amused at a press conference and said: "There's a lot going on with his outfit, but I have the feeling that's Frances Tiafoe."
