Anyone who produces 96 mistakes without necessity and still leaves the court as a winner has truly earned this success in the end. Lorenzo Giustino, Italian qualifier, managed this feat against Corentin Moutet after a playing time of 6:05 hours. 2: 6, 7: 6 (7), 7: 6 (3), 2: 6 and 18:16 it was the end of the game for Giustino, who will meet Diego Schwartzman in round two.

Little by little, a few spectators had gathered on Court 14, under normal circumstances the audience would have gone uphill at such a game. So the two players had to push themselves. And they both did: Both the Italian and local hero Moutet did not hold back, accelerated to the end, and did not shy away from network attacks.

Record in Paris is set by Santoro and Clement

Giustino and Moutet did not quite come close to the record set by Fabrice Santoro and Arnaud Clement in 2004: the two French had played each other for 6:33 hours. With the better ending for Santoro.

Lately, matches of this length are only possible in Roland Garros: At the Australian Open a (champions) tie-break is played at 6: 6 in the decisive set, at Wimbledon you are looking for a dramatic end at 12:12, the US Open set that End point for years with a regular short decision at 6: 6.

In the course of the 2020 tournament, there was a game on the first day that was similarly exciting - Jurij Rodionov defeated Jeremy Chardy after a 2-0 set deficit and defense of a match point with 10: 8 in the fifth set.
