Alexander Zverev announced in advance that he was going to the tournament with "great determination". And why not? The tournament victory in Madrid and the victories over Rafael Nadal, Dominic Thiem and Matteo Berrettini increased the self-confidence of the hamburger again. Even if it was Nadal again at the follow-up tournament in Rome, he showed where the sand has its grains.
Zverev's draw, however, looks good: first round against a qualifier, Oscar Otte, the possible second too - and the qualifier that everyone was afraid of, namely Carlos Alcaraz, ended up in the other half of the tableau. Should Zverev win against Otte, there would be a duel against Roman Safiullin or Carlos Taberner. In lap 3, Dan Evans could wait.
Whereby Zverev goes about his tasks with respect: He does not want to underestimate qualifiers, after all they have already played three successful matches in Paris, he said. So did Oscar Otte: The 27-year-old from Cologne is currently listed in 152nd place in the ATP ranking, was already number 127. And had already played a prominent match in Paris: in 2019 he was allowed in round 2 (also after qualifying ) ran against Roger Federer, beat himself at 4: 6, 3: 6, 4: 6 quite respectably and - at least outwardly - without much nervousness.
Zverev and Otte have never met at the ATP level.
When will Zverev come against Otte?
The match between Alexander Zverev and Oscar Otte is scheduled as the fourth game after 11 a.m., after one men's and two women's games, so it should start at around 4 p.m. at the earliest. Servus TV Germany broadcasts on TV and via livestream on servustv.com. You are with us in the live ticker!
