French Open: Alexander Zverev has no chance after a strong start against Djokovic

Alexander Zverev failed in the quarterfinals of Roland Garros after a great start due to an outstanding Novak Djokovic. After 2 hours and 9 minutes it was 5: 7, 2: 6 and 2: 6 from the German perspective.

Zverev got into the match well, dictated the pace and kept coming out of his comfortable position far behind the baseline. However, he did not use a 0:30 in Djokovic's first service game, neither a 15:40 in the second, nor a 30:40 in the third. However, Zverev struck 5: 4 - but lost his service game directly. Previously, he had accomplished all service games with ease. Djokovic now had the upper hand, the hamburger gave away a possible tie-break, among other things with an unsuccessful smash and double error to 5: 7.

In set two, Djokovic then pulled away. Zverev continued to play well, no question, but one had the feeling: No matter what he plans - Djokovic has long known, is already there and cones the ball back in peace of mind.

Zverev struggled to avoid a 0: 4 deficit, but the missed opportunity for the first set gnawed at the 21-year-old, as did the long rallies on Zverev, the last step and the right distance to the ball were missing. Djokovic, on the other hand, always kept the overview, finishing several times with a fine stop.

Zverev fought anyway, stayed tuned, tortured Djokovic again about his debut at his serve - but passed through two with two doubles at the end with 2: 6.

The decisive break in set three was Djokovic's 4-2, when Zverev pushed a forehand volley into the net - until then, he was convinced that he had recovered somewhat from the game so far, even if Djokovic always annoyed him with the stop when Zverev acted too far behind the baseline.

Zverev took another chance to rebreak, but trying to stop turned out to be a bad decision. Then he gave up his serve again, this time to win the match for Djokovic.

"It was important to stay focused, not to think too much about the next day," said Djokovic about the rain fall on Thursday.
