Marc Maury, the legendary court announcer on the Philippe Chatrier court, impresses with his fantastic deep voice and perfect timing: the first player is introduced after the referee has announced three minutes of remaining time. The second exactly one minute later. That didn't work in the early Sunday afternoon. In the list of Roger Federer's accumulated successes, Maury exceeded by several seconds. The audience thanked him. Yes, even Leonardo Mayer's box gave applause.

Federer starts with break

Federer started the fourth match against Mayer with a break, the Argentine had so far been without a contract against the 37-year-old. After 33 minutes Federer had got a 6-2, now only the own box applauded. And the vast majority of viewers.

Philipp Kohlschreiber could have been on the other side of the net, but the German lost to Nicolas Mahut in the round. The latter, in turn, had found his master in Mayer. Federer also masterfully started round two, won the first eight points, and left little to burn as a server. Until the eighth game, Mayer actually dared to come to debut for the first time in a setback. A few moments later, the Argentine sank a ball in the upper tier - Federer had just made the second break of the set to 6: 3.

Now against Tsitsipas or Wawrinka

In the third act Federer gave five break chances at the 2-1 level, Mayer had not had a single one up to this point. Federer just took Mayer's serve to 4-2, that was enough. After 1:42 hours, the maestro finished his last service game at zero.

In the quarter-finals, Roger Federer will play either Stefanos Tsitsipas or Stan Wawrinka. Federer lost to his friend and compatriot in 2015 when he last appeared in Roland Garros. Also in the round of the last eight.
