Jannik Sinner won his opening match at the Generali Open 2020 in Kitzbühel against Philipp Kohlschreiber , today he will face Laslo Djere, who was just able to assert himself against last year's finalist Albert Ramos-Vinolas in round one. In his first match on sand in more than a year, the last appearance on this surface took place in Umag in 2019.
After his match, ski star Dominik Paris reported to Sinner on the court - who, however, said at the press conference that he had barely understood his South Tyrolean compatriot. The dialects are too different.
Sinner's parents visit Kitzbühel
The cheers from a group of Italian fans who supported Sinner in his match could be clearly assigned. All more or less good acquaintances, including his parents. Sinner says he doesn't know whether it will stay that way. His father must definitely go home and call work.
Jannik Sinner himself will stay in Kitzbühel, maybe even until Sunday. And also has the US Open in mind, as he explained in an interview with tennisnet.com.
tennisnet : Mr. Sinner. Your supplier has created an outfit for the US Open that is supposed to be reminiscent of the great Andre Agassi . You were born in 2001. Is there anything you can do with the name Andre Agassi?
Jannik Sinner : I met Andre Agassi for the first time when he was out with Grigor Dimitrov. I trained with Dimitrov in Bordigera and we talked a little bit. Just a little small talk. We know he's a legend. I haven't seen that many games from him. He's a fine guy, the way he acts on the tennis court. It is something special to wear the same things as him.
tennisnet : You had to go over five sets against Karen Khachanov at the US Open, also a new experience. How did your body cope with that?
Sinner : I was out with the physiotherapist and the tennis trainer - and after two days I was relatively fit again. From my point of view, I could have played a match there. And can play well. I had a good draw and had to think about the match for a few days. But I'm still young, I have to learn from that.
tennisnet : Are you still following the US Open? Who is your favorite?
Sinner : That is difficult to say. Of the people who are still there, none of them have won a Grand Slam tournament. From my point of view, Dominic is the favorite. He has already played in the Roland Garros final twice, including the Australian Open earlier this year. He is an outstanding person and player.
tennisnet : After your victory against Philipp Kohlschreiber, Dominik Paris congratulated you. You were an excellent skier yourself. When was the last time you were on the slopes?
Sinner : That was at Christmas. I just enjoy skiing. I'm sure I'm driving a little slower now - but I'm already overtaking a few tourists. On the other hand, a few overtake me.
tennisnet : Your head coach, Ricardo Piatti, has no problem with you skiing?
Sinner : No. He says: drive slowly, but drive. From his point of view, it is important that I also do something else. When I'm at home, I try to do a lot of things to regenerate. And skiing is still good for me.
