Next round in the vaccination posse about Camila Giorgi

Camila Giorgi has been under suspicion for several weeks of having traveled – and gambled – with fake Imp certificates. At a press conference at the Australian Open, the 31-year-old caused further confusion.

A little reassurance at the beginning: No, this case will not take on the dimensions of Novak Djokovic from last year - even if it has the same keywords: Covid, vaccination and Australia.

But Camila Giorgi does not have to fear not being allowed to enter Australia and being excluded from the first Grand Slam tournament of the year. She's been in Australia for a long time. And she has already successfully completed the first round. She beat Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova in round 1 in a hurry 6-0, 6-1. But in her Italian homeland, the anger is growing day by day. And this time she fueled him herself. She came under public scrutiny a few weeks ago after two doctors accused of issuing fake vaccination certificates were arrested in Italy. Giorgi's name appeared in the customer file. According to Italian media, doctor Daniela Grillone has already claimed that Giorgi is a patient with her, but has not been vaccinated.

Strange answers from Giorgi

At the press conference after the game against Pavlyuchenkova, she was asked about what was happening in Europe: "Yes, I did everything the Australian government asked. Otherwise I wouldn't be here. But I got my vaccinations from different doctors. She gave me only one. So I don't have a false vaccination record," she replied. When asked, she remained so imprecise that her answers were (again) left room for speculation until the end of the press conference. Whether she was really vaccinated against Corona, reporters urged a tangible statement. "It was a vaccine", the Italian, who has also become known with revealing social media, did not want to be more specific.

Whether she wins or loses in the second round against Anna Karolina Schmiedlova from Slovakia on Thursday is anyone's guess. However, it is already clear which topic will definitely come up again afterwards in the press conference.
