The term "one-way street tennis" may be a bit trite, but it's still legal to use in a tournament with a car as the trophy. Because the car, specifically the blue Porsche at the end of the Porsche Arena, is once again within reach for Aryna Sabalenka: 6:1, 6:2 she won against surprise woman Anastasia Potapova on Saturday afternoon.
In the end, she had no chance against the power of the second in the world rankings - but in the end she still scored a few more points than feared in the meantime.
"It was a great match, I played incredible tennis," Sabalenka was rightly proud of her performance. If you play against a player for the first time - does she really want to put an exclamation mark at the beginning? "Yes, it is," Sabalenka admitted with a laugh.
Sabalenka with the third chance
Sabalenka has a chance to finally win the much-awaited Porsche on Sunday after losing in the finals in 2021 (to Ashleigh Barty) and 2022 (to Iga Swiatek).
It won't be any easier this year: It's either against Swiatek again or against Ons Jabeur, who had a brilliant performance especially on Friday in beating Beatrix Haddad Maia.
