Iga Swiatek can now drive a car as quickly as she plays tennis: The world number one won the final at the Porsche Tennis Grand Prix 2022 6:2, 6:2 against Aryna Sabalenka and thus also secured the winning Porsche.
Sabalenka had already yearned for it several times this week - without success in the end. Like last year (it was Ash Barty) she has to settle for second place.
Swiatek dominated the final from the start, quickly took a 3-0 lead and grabbed the first set. In the second half, Sabalenka was able to hold on better and avoid falling behind early on, even though she had to fight hard. From the 2:2 only Swiatek played again.
Iga Swiatek with 23rd win in a row
"Aryna, it was a tough match, we fought for every point. Hopefully we'll do that more often," said the happy winner at the end. "Thank you also to my team - half of them stayed at home, they need some time away from me," joked Swiatek - who thanked her father, who had come to Stuttgart with her.
It was the 23rd match win in a row for the Pole, she hasn't lost since February and continued where she usually started. Only in the semifinals on Saturday against Liudmila Samsonova did Swiatek struggle badly and lose a set after winning 28 sets in a row.
