When the Italian next-gen star Lorenzo Musetti and the Georgian Nikoloz Basilashvili were ready for the last individual match of the day at the ATP tournament in Stuttgart on Tuesday evening, the actual party took place in the shadow of the center court. There, the Tsitsipas brothers served in their doubles game against Andre Goransson from Sweden and Ben McLachlan from Japan.

Numerous spectators gathered around the 3rd place, the smallest of the three show courts at the Weissenhof tennis club, to watch the world number five in singles Stefanos alongside his brother Petros at work. The Tsitsipas brothers appeared as a team for only the third time this season. While the two Greeks reached the second round at the Masters in Monte-Carlo, the Mutua Madrid Open was over after the opening game against Jamie Murray and Michael Venus.

Petros in uptrend

"It's something very special because we don't get the chance to play together that often," explained Stefanos ahead of the game.

At the side of the Spanish old master Feliciano Lopez, the 23-year-old Stefanos has already won an ATP doubles tournament in Acapulco, Mexico.

Petros, who is two years his junior, has also had some successes in the last three years. Eight triumphs on the ITF World Tennis Tour and a tournament victory at ATP Challenger level are now on the credit side of number 197 in the double world rankings.

The "double Tsitsipas" is something special

"We have a very special relationship and deserve to play together on the ATP tour," said Stefanos, who is seeded number 1 in Stuttgart.

“I am very grateful to the people who made this possible. Doubles is something very special at events like this - especially when I can play with my brother. It's fun to combine personal goals like singles with a family business. Playing here with my brother is a dream come true.”

Anyone who missed the appearance of the Greek doubles will have another chance to take a look at the duo this Wednesday: The game was 7: 6 (3), 5: 5 from the point of view of the two Tsitsipas canceled due to rain. Continued today at 12pm!
