The beginning of the match between Barty and Rogers looked like something out of a bad movie: The Australian made one double mistake after the other, once the ball was in play, Barty gave her opponent the points with simple mistakes. The 6: 2 for the last US-American left in the tableau was the logical consequence. In the second act, Barty turned the tables on and off, now, above all, served better and tied the sets with almost no problems.

In the decision, the number one of the tournament managed an early break. And a second to 5: 2. But that did not end Rogers' resistance. Because the outsider came up again to 4: 5, pushed herself and the audience. In the tenth game, Rogers used the second breakball to equalize. And took the lead for the first time since the first round. The decision had to result in a tiebreak, after a playing time of exactly two hours. At 3: 3 the sides were switched. Rogers got the first match point after a forehand error by Barty. And the local hero took the chance.

In the round of 16 it is against the 18-year-old British Emma Raducanu, who delivered a sensational performance against Sara Sorribes Tormo. Raducanu gave the Spaniard, who threw Barty out of the tournament at the Tokyo Olympics, only one game win.

Karolina Pliskova , number four of the tournament and 2016 finalist, had no problems. Pliskova beat Ajla Tomljanovic 6: 3 and 6: 2 and is waiting for the winner of the match between Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova and Varvara Gracheva.
