Julia Görges created facts early on and canceled her trip to the USA weeks ago. Andrea Petkovic did the same to Görges on Friday, and the Darmstadt woman will not travel to the second Grand Slam tournament of the year either. After Petkovic's cancellation, the Ukrainian Marta Kostyuk has a permanent place in the tableau. Petkovic recently took part in an exhibition tournament in Berlin.
From a German point of view, only Laura Siegemund and Anna-Lena Friedsam seem to be safe candidates for participation in the US Open 2020 at the moment. Angelique Kerber is still on the entry list, but the fact that the German number one does not participate in the WTA tournament in Cincinnati, which will take place from today, could be a sign that Kerber will only start on European sand.
Certainly not in Flushing Meadows will be number one in the world, Ashleigh Barty, Wimbledon winner Simona Halep, Elina Svitolina or Belinda Bencic, along with other top players.
