Mona Barhel's stay at the facility in Flushing Meadows lasted only 77 minutes. The Neumünster native was only rarely able to set accents in a game that her generin deservedly won overall. Barthel was always vulnerable, especially on the second serve, and was only able to win 42% of the points on the second serve.
The 22-year-old Swiss was able to earn a total of four breaks in the match. Barthel only managed the only break in the second set to equalize 3:3, but its relevance vanished when the 251st in the WTA ranking lost her serve game again.
Waltert is thus the upcoming opponent of Laura Siegemund, who clearly won her opening game Nuria Brancaccio.
