Alison van Uytwanck was not the worst lot that Sinja Kraus had been able to draw for her first appearance in the main draw at the WTA Tour 250 tournament in Linz. It was also clear that it would not be easy against the Belgian. Van Uytwanck has won a total of five titles on the tour in her career, the last one this year in Nur-Sultan. And so the 6: 1 and 6: 0 for the current number 69 in the WTA world rankings against Sinja Kraus must also be rated.
Julia Grabher, the second Austrian who was awarded a wildcard by tournament director Sandra Reichel, meets Alizé Cornet later on Monday. Another demanding undertaking.
Tournament favorite Emma Raducanu, like Simona Halep, Danielle Collins and Veronika Kudermetova, enjoys a bye in round one.
