A kiss from Loevik: Olympic champion Alexander Zverev landed in Germany

He had forgotten the racket bag on the baggage carousel, but Alexander Zverev took it with humor. "I don't need them for a few days anyway," said the Olympic tennis champion after landing at Munich Airport.

There, his parents, brother Mischa, the two family dogs Loevik and Junior and around 100 fans - including the former Wimbledon finalist Sabine Lisicki - gave him a lavish reception.

First Zverev fell around his older brother Mischa's neck, then there was an animal kiss from Loevik. "Now I want to enjoy it all for a few days first," said Zverev at Eurosport: "Then I'll think about the US Open." The last Grand Slam tournament of the year starts on August 30th in New York. In the previous year, Zverev had reached the final there.

Zverev: Olympic victory "best feeling of my career"

The 24-year-old raved about the Olympics again. This feeling of having won gold "was the best I will ever have in my career, I cannot describe it at all," said Zverev. Now he has "won everything except a Grand Slam. Of course that remains the big goal."

There is not much time left to celebrate, because "my manager (brother Mischa, editor) has already made about 5,000 appointments". The first took place in Zverev's home city of Hamburg, where the fifth in the world ranked in the city's Golden Book on Tuesday. "I am deeply honored to have this opportunity," said Zverev: "A dream has come true, the gold medal is in Hamburg."

Zverev will probably skip the Masters tournament in Toronto, he has not yet decided on his participation in the subsequent Masters in Cincinnati.
