It can be an exciting affair for Alexander Zverev (ATP 6) in the game against American Sam Querrey (ATP 55) this Friday (not before 1:30 p.m. CEST). Hardly anyone had the 31-year-old, who was not in a good mood before the tournament in Beijing, on the slip. Querrey is now back at the $ 3.6 million hard court tournament. /

The almost two meter tall right-hander from Las Vegas, who was number 11 in the world rankings just over a year and a half ago, had to overcome a dry spell with only a few top results in the past few months. After his career peak in February 2018, the ten-time ATP champion only made the leap to a quarter-finals three times that same year. In 2019, Querrey had caused a sensation for a short time after two semi-finals in New York and Houston in the grass season with a final in Eastbourne and reaching the quarter-finals in Wimbledon (with a previous first-round victory against Dominic Thiem). However, he never managed to return to his two strongest years in 2017 and 2018.

Querrey wins against Bautista Agut and Schwartzman

At the China Open, the Wimbledon semi-finalist from 2017 was again in good spirits. In the first two rounds, the US boy bowled with Roberto Bautista Agut (ATP 10) and Diego Schwartzman (ATP 16), two absolute top players from the competition. Zverev is warned not to underestimate the powerful American with almost 8,000 aces in his ATP career. The German number one has won the only direct comparison to date (2017 at the Laver Cup). However, Querrey should not only be eager to balance this balance, but also to reach a semi-final in an ATP Tour 500 tournament for two and a half years.
