Even if Roger Federer had not felt that he had really been in danger at his two previous appearances at the ATP Tour 500 tournament in Dubai: the lectures against Philipp Kohlschreiber and Fernando Verdasco were only sovereign in parts. Both times, the Swiss had to go over three sets, especially against the Spaniard, the match was long on the knife.
Marton Fucsovics, a man that Federer has only played against, is now waiting in the quarterfinals: at the Australian Open on his way to his 20th and to date last Grand Slam success. Back then Federer won in three sets. In contrast to the Maestro in Dubai, Fucsovics was not really challenged, won against Damir Dzumhur and Jan-Lennard Struff in three sets.
