The German tennis women will be unseeded in the final round of the Billie Jean King Cup. As the world tennis association ITF announced with a view to the tournament from November 7th to 12th in Seville, Captain Rainer Schüttler's team will be drawn from pot 3 in the draw on May 24th in London (1 p.m.). Defending champions Switzerland and last year's finalists Australia as well as Spain and France are seeded.
Canada, the Czech Republic, Italy and Kazakhstan form the second lottery pot. The draw will determine four groups of three teams each, and the winner will advance to the semi-finals.
Poland receives wild card
Germany qualified for the final round in April with a 3-1 win over Brazil. A total of twelve teams will start in Seville. Poland received a wild card for world number one Iga Swiatek, who, like Germany, Slovenia and the USA, will be drawn from pot 3.
The ITF also announced the seeded and unseeded teams for the Billie Jean King Cup Playoff on Thursday. Austria, who clearly lost to the USA in March, is unseeded and will face Slovakia, Belgium, Great Britain, Brazil, Ukraine, Romania, Japan or Mexico in November.
