According to information from ZDF and Welt, an investigation is currently underway against the German, who granted the procedure on request but did not want to comment publicly.
According to the report, more than 135 players are involved worldwide. The investigation is expected to extend to many countries, including Belgium, Spain, France and the United States. The US federal FBI has already contacted Belgian investigators. According to the research, a player from the top 30 in the world rankings who has already won three ATP tournaments is also affected.
Investigation nearing completion
"This is an Armenian betting mafia network that has spread across seven countries in Europe and has been highly intelligent and cheated on a large scale," said Eric Bisschop, Belgian Vice Prosecutor General and investigator involved. The system of betting manipulators is unique.
In close consultation with the tennis professionals, hundreds of smaller amounts were sometimes bet on manipulated games. In total, tens of thousands of euros would come together with each manipulation. The investigation should be nearing completion.
