Austria's current number two in women's tennis is slowly improving again: Barbara Haas made it to the quarter-finals of the ITF W60 event in Grado (Italy) with a clear 6:3, 6:2 win over the Romanian Oana Georgeta Simion. It is the second time for the Upper Austrian that she has reached the round of eight after an injury-related seven-month absence - most recently at the W25 event in Split, where, however, Germany's Katharina Hobgarski ended in three sets.
At the start, the 26-year-old from Steyr defeated local hero Cristiana Ferrando 6:2, 4:6, 6:4. Now follows either a duel with the Chilean Barbara Gatica or with the former world number five Sara Errani, who is fifth in northern Italy.
