"Attention, the Fruhvirtovas are coming!" headlined tennisnet.com a few weeks ago - and the younger of the two sisters caused quite a stir at the weekend.
Brenda Fruhvirtova won the W25 tournament in Tucuman/Argentina here, in only her third appearance at the professional level.
Among others, Fruhvirtova beat Paula Ormaechea (WTA No. 59) in the semifinals, in the final she defeated Carolina Alves (WTA No. 240) to the title. Nice gimmick: the trophy was presented to her by none other than Gabriela Sabatini - US Open winner in 1990.
Fruhvirtova in a row with Henin, Kournikova, Safina
As reported by the ITF , Fruhvirtova is one of 21 players in the past 25 years to win a title when she was just 14. Other celebrities were Justine Henin, Anna Kournikova and Dinara Safina.
The American Claire Lui last won the tournament in Orlando in 2015, at the age of 14 years and 9 months.
Brenda Fruhviatova is among the top 700 for the first time
Fruhvirtova will move up around 400 places in the WTA ranking and appear in the top 700 for the first time next week. (Results at this level are included in the ranking with a one-week delay.)
She is also moving closer to her sister: Linda Fruhvirtova is currently in 300th place, she surprisingly reached the quarter-finals in Charleston last year and was already in 277th place.
