A familiar scenario takes place for the Austrian tennis fan when Dominic Thiem changes sides, when the Lichtenwörther strengthens himself there with liquid content from the can of his beverage supplier. With top talent Joel Schwärzler, in addition to the US Open champion of 2020, another ÖTV player will in future rely on the support of the beverage empire from Fuschl am See.
Great achievements in juniors
The 17-year-old regularly proves how hot the Schwärzler share could get for the future with his successes on the junior tour. After his U16 title at the European Championships last summer, the man from Vorarlberg also delivered excellent results on the ITF World Tennis Tour Juniors, which currently place him 33rd in the junior world rankings. If you consider that Schwärzler, born in 2006, is still eligible to play in the junior competitions next year, he is already one of the ten best players of his year or younger in the "adjusted" ranking worldwide. Even if the Harder was able to secure his first ATP points last month by reaching the semi-finals of the ITF tournament for men in Anlalya, the focus will continue to be on the big junior tournaments for the time being. The fact that the Austrian Tennis Association should not leave anything to chance is underscored by the fact that ÖTV sports director and Davis Cup captain Jürgen Melzer has made the Schwärzler project a "top priority" and has taken over the care of the youngster.
Team members as role models
Even if the sporting successes of Dominic Thiem and Stefanos Tsitsipas are absolutely inspiring for the client of the management company Kosmos, Schwärzler could also take other members of the Red Bull athletes team as role models. With his aggressive baseline game based on strong serves, the left-hander should also be playfully based on Matteo Berrettini and Reilly Opelka.
