Roger Federer and Philipp Kohlschreiber warm up for Dubai

If someone is well acquainted with the special circumstances in Dubai, then probably Roger Federer. The Swiss regularly contests his preparation for the season - and won the ATP tournament seven times, most recently in 2015. Federer is also particularly familiar with the qualities of Philipp Kohlschreiber.

The Maestro leads in the internal balance sheet against the long-standing German number one with 13: 0 victories. But that shouldn't hide the fact that Kohlschreiber was a very unpleasant opponent for Federer on most occasions. But also one of the players with whom the 37-year-old prefers to train. So it's no surprise that the two met on Friday morning at the Center Court in Dubai.

Kohlschreiber and Federer with suboptimal start of the season

And then had to change places twice, as Stephan Fehske, manager of Kohlschreiber, noted in his Instagram post for posterity.

Both players did not start the 2019 season as desired. Kohlschreiber reached the semi-finals in Auckland, but had already beaten Joao Sousa in round two at the Australian Open. Most recently in Montpellier and Rotterdam followed two first-round defeats. Federer defended the Hopman Cup title at the beginning of the year, but was surprisingly defeated in Melbourne in the round of 16 by Stefanos Tsitsipas from Greece.
