When Tatjana Maria talks about her husband, she can't stop raving. Charles-Edouard Maria is not only the man at Maria's side, but also her coach - the two first met through a joint training session in the USA in 2012 . She trusts him "100 percent", Maria likes to repeat, both in terms of tactics for the next game and technical issues.
After the birth of daughter Charlotte in 2013 and the subsequent maternity leave, Charles-Edouard Maria had the idea of switching his wife's backhand from two to one hand, not exactly an easy undertaking in the middle of his career. Not a problem for Tatjana: She never went through with it anyway, but always played the slice, she said, and she still has it. The switch was successful - even though Maria still uses the Slice 95 percent of the time.

"It freshened up their own game"
Charles-Edouard Maria now also acts as the coach of daughter Charlotte (8 years old), who pushes a more than decent shot and was signed by Nike at the beginning of the year. Training is a family affair. And if Charles has his way, Tatjana has also taken a lot with her as her daughter's co-trainer.
You have a house with a tennis court, and during the corona pandemic and the lockdown, the two girls trained together every day. "And Tatjana's game was good for that," said the 48-year-old on French television . "By showing things to Charlotte, she had to get back to basics, it refreshed her own game. She built on that. It's one of the reasons why she's playing better than she used to."
In addition to the basic Maria game. "Tatjana is a fighter," says Charles-Edouard Maria. "From the first point to the last point, from January 1st to December 31st, she never gives up a free point. That's her strength. But she also puts everything in perspective because we have our family."
