Matches around lunchtime are not very popular with Alexander Zverev. But it doesn't help. When the USTA sets the game against Sam Querrey to start at 12 p.m. local time, co-favorite Zverev is just under two hours before the start of the game with his hitting partner, dad and coach Alexander senior and physio Hugo Gravil on the court of the largest tennis stadium in the world. And ready for High Noon to knock Sam Querrey out of the tournament with a concentrated performance with a 6: 4, 7: 5 and 6: 2.

Hopefully none of the fans present had expected a copy of the entertaining meeting between Stefanos Tsitsipas and Andy Murray the day before from the third meeting of the two. Even if the game had lasted five sets, the timely termination of the day session would not have been in danger. Now of course it is not the case that Alexander Zverev could not have longer rallies. But if you get the points with the service or at the latest with the first follow-up strike, why take on the circumstances of a longer rally?

Zverev against Pouille or Ramos-Vinolas

In round one, Zverev set the course for set leadership with the break to 5: 4, Querrey surrendered to his fate. In the second set it was the eleventh game that tipped the balance in favor of Zverev. In the third act, Zverev became a little impatient, took the service games from his opponent to 2: 1 and 4: 1, and in the seventh game already awarded three match points. To close the sack with your own surcharge after a playing time of 1:40 hours.

In round two, Zverev will face longer rallies. Neither Lucas Pouille nor Albert-Ramos Vinolas, who started their match an hour earlier than Zverev, are suspected of being included in the “Serve Bots” group. The good news for Zverev is mainly: As an Olympic champion, last year's finalist and current champion of Cincinnati, the second appearance in the National Tennis Center almost screams for a night session. And in the evening, Alexander Zverev is known to always step up a gear.
