Top match of the day: Ashleigh Barty vs. Clara Tauson (6pm CEST, Arthur Ashe Stadium)
Number one against an unseeded Dane as the best option of the year? But yes! On the one hand, Ash got the big trembling hand against Vera Zvonareva after a strong first set. On the other hand, Tauson in her youthful arrogance is always able to simply nail every ball on it without fear. If the balls land in the field, even Barty could run into problems.
Fun match of the day: Alexander Bublik vs. Jack Sock (third match after 5 p.m., Court 5)
How did Lars Uebel, sporting director of the TennisBase in Oberhaching put it so nicely before the first-round game between Alexander Bublik and Yannick Hanfmann? Bublik alone decides on the outcome of the match. Either way. Now Hanfmann has won a set, but the Kazakh has moved into the second round. With Jack Sock there is now a man who can shoot from the hip just as much as Bublik himself. And to whom you have to give credit for having found his way back on track from a very deep valley. As he proved at the start against Yoshihito Nishioka.
Veteran Watch: Andreas Seppi vs. Hubert Hurkacz (second match after 5 p.m., Court 5)
True Story: The small German-speaking delegation wanted to go to the press center in Arthur Ashe Stadium on Tuesday to watch a match on the outside courts. There it was in the fifth set between Andreas Seppi and Marton Fucsovics 6: 6 in the tie-break. “Just two more points” was the motto. It should be 16 of them. With a better ending for Seppi, who will now deal with Hubert Hurkacz . From an Italian point of view, we fear: not successful.
Clothes changer of the day: Reilly Opelka (vs. Lorenzo Musetti)
It seemed as if Reilly Opelka had only been waiting for the question about Stefanos Tsitsipas' absences after his opening win against SoonWoo Kwon. As if on cue, Opelka started off in the direction of the reporters, all of whom couldn't understand how hot it was out there in the squares. And how long it takes to completely overhaul yourself. Unfortunately, it has become noticeably cooler in New York City. Otherwise we would have started our stopwatch here.
The German glasses: Zverev, Otte, Kerber in action
Alexander Zverev will win his match against Albert Ramos-Vinolas in three concentrated sets. Why? Because the Spaniard does not have the weapons to cause problems for the German number one. Oscar Otte can count on chances in the second game in 13th place against Denis Kudla. Oh, yes: Angelique Kerber still has to work. The game from Wednesday was postponed to Thursday afternoon: as the third match after 5 p.m. on the Grandstand.
Here is the schedule for Thursday
