Peter Gojowczyk, that was one of the most impressive experiences during the Corona break, also excels in the kitchen. On Instagram, the man from Dachau cooked live in a talk with his coach at the time, Chris Kas, following the motto: Keep it simple. That’s exactly what has been the recipe for success at the US Open 2021 so far: Forcing yourself to take things easy. It doesn't always work perfectly, for example at the beginning and at the very end of the third-round game against Henri Laaksonen. As a result, however, is the first move into the second week of a major. And the nice task of playing for a place in the last eight on one of the show courts against Stefanos Tsitsipas on Sunday.

And all of this without any external advice? That is exactly what Peter Gojowczyk is quite proud of. Rightly. Although his jubilation had not met with any echo, Gojo has so far not regretted the decision to do everything with himself. Why also? In the qualification he put in three squeaky clean performances, in the first round of the main field with the success against Ugo Humbert his previous masterpiece. There were never any doubts against Laaksonen, even if the Swiss had two break chances in the very last game.

Now against youngster Alcaraz

Gojowczyk has probably already prepared for a meeting with Stefanos Tsitsipas, now it's against Carlos Alcaraz on Sunday. The amazing Spaniard, at the age of 18, the youngest round of 16 at the US Open since 1989, picked up the crowd in the match against Tsitsipas and never left it until the end. Can Alcaraz hold this emotional level against his next opponent? Slight doubts are in order.

In any case, Peter Gojowczyk has almost succeeded in making the leap back among the top 100 players in the world; he is the first three-digit player to be listed in the live ranking. There is still a long way to go before his career high, Gojowczyk was already number 39. But the run in Flushing Meadows doesn't have to be over yet.
