The way from Court 8 to the nearest toilet can be long. And so Dennis Novak had enough time with the score of 3-0 in the fourth set to think about why he was not already the sure winner in the second round. His opponent, Alejandro Davidovich Fokina from Spain, was taking a long break.

Novak had won the first round 6: 3, then presented again with a break. And still lost set two 4: 6. The same picture in the third act: Again Austria's number two could not use a break lead. And suddenly after the 3: 6 he was 1: 2 behind. After all: The set compensation was pretty easy for Novak with 6: 1.

Early backlog in the decision set

The decision, however, started very badly for Novak, Davidovich Fokina was quickly 3-0 up. In the following game Novak missed the ball with a double fault, the break to 0: 4 meant the preliminary decision.

Austria's number one, Dominic Thiem, intervenes on Tuesday. Thiem meets the Spaniard Jaume Munar (second match after 5 p.m. CEST, live on TV and live stream on Eurosport and in our live ticker).
