The US Open 2020 was not a real tennis festival: No spectators and mostly limited support staff for the players: the atmosphere inside didn't really create a great event atmosphere. For Austria and Germany, of course, there was still plenty of reason to be happy about the men's final with the protagonists Dominic Thiem and Alexander Zverev.
The year before that, Bianca Andreescu had reason to be happy: The then 19-year-old Canadian not only surprised fans and experts with an unexpected run to the final, the daughter of Romanian immigrants also didn't have enough there and added a bitter 3: 6 to Serena Williams, -5: 7 defeat too. The American missed her long-awaited 24th Grand Slam success, while Andreescu celebrated the first ever women's triumph for a Canadian in a major tournament.
A new trend in the tennis circuit?
After the 21-year-old did not compete in the major event in New York last year due to safety concerns, the right-hander wants to be at the forefront again this year. To ensure that this works, the North American not only has her mother Maria Andreescu and trainer Sylvain Bruneau with her, but also the family dog Coco Andreescu. And so that everything is correct, the cuddly four-legged friend was also given an accreditation.
Incidentally, not an isolated case: tennis legend Martina Navratilova also came to the French Open in Paris this year with a dearest dog - and he was also professionally accredited for the reasons for the event. Who knows, maybe a new trend? In the next few days, Miss Andreescu and her followers will find out whether it brings luck.
