The big breakthrough at Grand Slam level, Carlos Alcaraz is still missing. Some had already given him credit for the really big run, even the title, at the French Open. /

No wonder: Alcaraz turned the tennis world upside down in the spring, with tournament victories in Rio de Janeiro, Miami, Barcelona and Madrid - the two M&Ms were even Masters titles. And Alcaraz had shown tremendous nerves of steel here, with victories over Rafael Nadal and Novak Djokovic.

But at the French Open he lost in the quarterfinals to Alexander Zverev, in Wimbledon in the round of 16 against Jannik Sinner.

Is there going to be something with the really big run at the US Open - or even the really big trophy at the end?

If Nick Kyrgios has his way: then yes. Because the Australian responded to the selection of the TV channel Eurosport regarding the potential winner in Flushing Meadows: Carlos Alcaraz.

Kyrgios does not type on himself

Curious: Kyrgios himself was also an option, so he didn't want to go that far; he also does not see Daniil Medvedev, Rafael Nadal, Stefanos Tsitsipas, Jannik Sinner, Felix Auger-Aliassime, Matteo Berrettini and Taylor Fritz at the top of the podium.

The form does not necessarily speak for "Carlitos": The hard court tournaments in the run-up to the US Open were mediocre. In Toronto he lost to Tommy Paul at the start, in Cincinnati in the quarterfinals against Cameron Norrie - but in matches worth seeing.

Alcaraz was in the quarterfinals at the US Open last year, including after a splendid victory over Tsitsipas.
