Jule Niemeier won in the evening with a focused performance in the first main round against defending champion Ons Jabeur. On the lawn of the Steffi Graf Stadium, Niemeier playfully recalled the achievements of last year's quarter-finals in Wimbledon.
The first set was an interplay of clear service games and changing breaks. When the score was 5:3, Niemeier fended off two set balls and was then able to equalize. The tiebreak decided the first set, which Jule Niemeier won.
The good level that Niemeier brought back into the match at the end of the first set continued at the beginning of the second round. After the direct break at the beginning of the second set, the Dortmund player kept serving and was able to fend off Jabeur's break chance at the end. After 1:36 hour, Niemeier used the second match ball.
