Strong performance by Paula Badosa at the WTA Finals in Guadalajara: The 23-year-old defeated Maria Sakkari 7: 6 (4) and 6: 4 in her second group match. At the start, the Spaniard had the top seeded Aryna Sabalenka with 6: 4 and 6: 0.
Badosa got off to a good start against Sakkari and consequently took the lead 5-2. However, Sakkari equalized and forced a tiebreak, in which Badosa got the upper hand with 7: 4.
In the second round, the Iberian managed the decisive break with a score of 4: 4, which she then managed to save across the finish line despite some problems. After a little more than two hours of play, Badosa was able to look forward to the 7: 6 (4) and 6: 4 success.
The Indian Wells winner is not yet sure of a place in the semifinals. Should Sabalenka win the evening match against Iga Swiatek (not before 2:30 a.m. Central European Time) in the Chichen Itza group, Badoda should already be happy about her semi-final ticket.
