Hyeon Chung returns to the tour this week

Great news from Hyeon Chung! The 26-year-old celebrates his comeback this week at the ATP 250 event in Seoul after a compulsory break of more than two years. For the time being, the South Korean will only start in doubles, alongside his compatriot Soonwoo Kwon he will meet Treat Huey and Hans Hach Verdugo in the first round.

Chung played his last match on September 23, 2020 as part of the French Open qualifier, after which serious back problems put him out of action. "I'm just happy to be back. I don't know how well I'll play, but I'll do my best," said the former world number 19. at a press conference on Monday.

Chung beats Zverev and Djokovic

At the Australian Open 2018, Chung demonstrated the great potential that lies dormant in him. In Melbourne, the South Korean reached the semifinals after victories over Alexander Zverev and Novak Djokovic, in which he finally had to give up against eventual winner Roger Federer.

According to Chung, he doesn't know how fit he will be when he returns to the tour. In any case, he matured mentally during his injury break: "I used to take tennis for granted, but now I'm just grateful for the chance to put my foot on the court."
