The 2017 Rome champion is also on the right track for 2024: Alexander Zverev is in the quarterfinals of the classic in the Foro Italico after a 6:2 and 7:5 win against Nuno Borges. There, the German number one will face his American counterpart, Taylor Fritz. Fritz, in turn, was able to prevail against Grigor Dimitrov in three sets in the round of 16.
Zverev didn't get off to the best start against Borges and had to give up his serve straight away. But the favorite immediately took the lead and won the first set without any problems. The circumstances also played a part in this. The courts in Rome were rock hard in the sunshine, which was certainly a small advantage for the good server Zverev.
Zverev against Fritz with positive result
In the second act, Zverev took advantage of the first break chance of the set at 5:5. And then served out not entirely without problems. After 30:0, Borges came close again and even had a chance to equalize. After 86 minutes of play, Alexander Zverev's quarter-final entry was official.

Alexander Zverev has played against Taylor Fritz seven times so far and has the edge with 4:3 wins. However, the two have never met on clay. The prospects for the semi-finals afterwards are pretty good: The winner between Zverev and Fritz will face either Djokovic conqueror Alejandro Tabilo or Zhizhen Zhang.
