The world number one beat Lesia Tsurenko 6: 2, 6: 0 - after an early 0: 2 deficit, she then won twelve games in a row. And that was the second match in a row: At the start, Swiatek had given Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova the maximum penalty, 6: 0, 6: 0 against the French Open finalist from 2021.

Swiatek is now waiting for the winner of the game between Donna Vekic and Liudmila Samsonova.

Defending champion Swiatek has already won the tournament in Rome twice.

Their clay record in 2023: 11 wins with 1 loss, which came last week in Madrid's final against Aryna Sabalenka. Swiatek had previously won the tournament in Stuttgart, where she beat Sabalenka.

Kasatkina is also further

Previously, Daria Kasatkina had already reached the round of 16, she had to fight hard against Julia Grabher 7: 5, 4: 6, 7: 6 (2). Ex-French Open finalist Marketa Vondrousova managed a small surprise in the 7: 5, 6: 3 against Maria Sakkari.

However, Victoria Azarenka had to cancel her match due to an ankle injury.
