That's a surprise! Alexander Zverev will now compete in the Davis Cup duel between Brazil and Germany on March 4th and 5th. The German Tennis Association has now confirmed a corresponding message.

There had been speculation about this shortly before, after Brazilian media had reported that Zverev had already flown directly from Mexico (where Zverev had played in Acapulco) to Brazil. /

Michael Kohlmann and Alexander Zverev had already agreed in Melbourne at the Australia Open that Zverev could possibly join the team at short notice. Originally, Zverev had stated that the appointment did not fit into his planning. After his disqualification in Acapulco, however, he quickly declared his readiness, the DTB continues.

“We are happy that Alexander is here. His conduct in Acapulco was unquestionably unacceptable and wrong. Alexander recognized this himself and apologized for it. We would now like to help him as a team to get through the difficult phase," said Davis Cup captain Kohlmann.

However, Zverev's nomination also means that one player has to give way: specifically Daniel Altmaier. Kohlmann also spoke to him about a similar scenario in Melbourne.

Zverev is the number 1 of the German team, ahead of Jan-Lennard Struff, debutant Oscar Otte and the top doubles around Kevin Krawietz and Tim Pütz.
