Angelique Kerber leaves the end of her career open

Three-time Grand Slam winner Angelique Kerber has vehemently denied that she wants to end her career after the 2024 Summer Games in Paris. "I never said that the Olympics were over," said the Kiel native in an interview with the Bild newspaper a few days before the publication of her biography "A question of will - my way up".

Of course, the Olympics on the Seine are "the main goal," emphasized the 34-year-old, who will be a mother for the first time next spring. "I'm tempted by the challenge of playing the Olympics on sand. But that doesn't have to be the end of it," said Kerber, who will then be 36 years old. In 2016 she won a silver medal at the Rio de Janeiro Games.

Kerber praises Niemeier

Kerber thinks a lot of the current German number one, Jule Niemeier. "She is very diligent and disciplined," she said of the Dortmund native, "if she keeps the level, I trust her a lot." She goes her own way and is good for one or the other surprise.

What does Niemeier need from Kerber's qualities? "It's hard to say, but to get to the top of the world, you need that real will and the ability to see it through to the end." And what would she like to have from Niemeier? "Oh yes, the serve, yes." But otherwise she is quite satisfied and at peace with herself, emphasized Kerber.
