She named Kim Clijsters, Tatjana Maria and Serena Williams as role models – "she proved that being a mother and a place at the top of the world rankings are not mutually exclusive," said Kerber in an interview with the current star . "More and more players are showing that you can return to the tennis business as a mother. I want to be one of them and show that both are possible." Your team will have to expand to organize everyday life differently.

Kerber also denounced the WTA classification that pregnant women are considered injured (and can only use their protected ranking for a small number of tournaments). The WTA has “some catching up to do” in this regard, she said, but to her knowledge they are working on a new regulation. "It's necessary because pregnancy is not an injury."

She herself is making long-term plans for the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris and hopes to play a few Grand Slam tournaments before then. "The path will not be easy. But anyone who follows my career knows that you always have to reckon with a Kerber comeback."

Kerber on tennis and family: "Meanwhile understood how both can be combined"

Kerber, who will soon be publishing her autobiography, also spoke about the difficulty of relationships in the tennis business. Reason: all the traveling, around 40 weeks a year. "Even the strongest partnership can't stand that," said the 34-year-old. It would be easier for men because women and families would be more likely to travel with them. "I could have skipped tournaments for some relationships, but I didn't want to. Sport was my top priority. But now I've understood how the two can be combined."

Kerber's partner Franco Bianco also works in the sports business. "For me it's important that everyone works in their own area and is independent," said Kerber. "But it helps to share life with someone who is walking the same path and understands how to support one another."
