Annual report Caroline Garcia: What is not, can still be; Good

Caroline Garcia can be more than satisfied with the past season. Only in the Grand Slam tournaments does the French still have room for improvement.

Caroline Garcia won the biggest title of the year at the very end

The tweet that Andy Murray sent back in 2011 is unforgettable. "The girl Maria Sharapova is playing against will eventually be number one in the world. Caroline Garcia. What a player - and you'll hear it from me first here." The Frenchwoman has not yet arrived at the throne as fourth in the world rankings, but in the past season she was (finally) able to bring her great potential to the pitch.

In 2022, she often proved how well Garcia can play tennis. The most impressive performance was at the WTA Finals in Fort Worth, where the 29-year-old won her biggest singles title to date. Overall, Garcia won four tournaments in singles last season, including the one in Cincinnati.

Garcia with problems at Grand Slam tournaments

Only in the Grand Slam tournaments did Garcia not really convince. At the Australian Open (first round) and the French Open (second round) it was already in the early phase of the respective off. It got a little better in Wimbledon (round of 16), at the US Open it was only in the semi-finals that the final stop was reached.

However, Garcia achieved what was probably the most emotional triumph in doubles. Alongside Kristina Mladenovic, she won the French Open for the second time after 2016. The home success should also be something like an initial spark for the 29-year-old in singles.

Garcia leads ace stats

The second half's run of success ultimately saw Garcia, who had started the year outside the top 70, finish fourth. In another ranking, however, the Frenchwoman was already at the top in 2022: With 394 aces, Garcia beat the most of all players.

Overall, Garcia can therefore be extremely satisfied. Only the expandable balance sheet at the four major tournaments clouds the otherwise strong year. But what is not, can still become. Conclusion: good.
