Of course, it is not at all impossible that Aryna Sabalenka will win her first Grand Slam title at the US Open 2022. The field for women is open as almost always, the dominance of Iga Swiatek from spring is long gone. Sabalenka is in fine form, having reached the semifinals in Cincinnati last week, where she lost to eventual tournament winner Caroline Garcia.
But one thing has to change if Sabalenka actually wants to have a chance at the Billie Jean King National Tennis Center: the serve. This should actually be the Belarusian's greatest weapon, but the WTA statistics show an impressive 339 double faults for the current season. With 41 matches played, that's an average of more than eight per game.
Gifts to the opponents, which Aryna Sabalenka is no longer willing to distribute. Which is why she sought help to open the game.
Sabalenka fails to Fernandez
"I changed a lot on my serve," Sabalenka is quoted as saying on the Tennis Now portal. “I worked with a biomechanist who is really good. As a coach, he helps me with my serve.” One reason why Sabalenka has been playing more successfully again in recent weeks. "We are currently well on the way to fixing the problems."
Last year looked like Sabalenka's first triumph in New York City, but she too fell victim to Leylah Fernandez's run in the semifinals. In 2022, the now 24-year-old from Minsk wants to go at least one step further.
